The New Hk Audio ICON LTS
(Long-Throw System) is a digitally controlled, horn-loaded, active PA that sets new standards for performance and digital signal management capability.
The primary design brief of the ICON LTS was for usage in ground-stacked configurations at events where conditions or budget constraints prevent you from flying a PA. It combines easy, intuitive operation with true, articulate response and considerable sound pressure.
ICON LTS' ability to satisfy the diverse requirements of so many different applications—e.g. top-40 cover bands, open-air concerts in the city, club dates, tents, road shows, and mobile dance events—make the system an excellent choice for rental companies and professional bands.
ICON LTS is a self-contained active system engineered to deliver excellent sound. The horn-driven 12"/1.4" IC 112 LA mid-/high unit, with its 60 x 40 CD horn design and outstanding directivity, features an onboard digital controller that serves as the stack's control center. Two 18" band-pass subwoofers provide the low-end kick for the full stack. State-of-the-art Class-D power amp technology delivers the reach and range to throw these signals across great distances at remarkable sound pressure levels.
The IC 112 LA mid/high unit is driven in biamp mode with a 1,000-watt/4-Ohm amplifier for the midrange and a 600-watt/4-Ohm amp module for the highs. The IC 118 BA subwoofers each have an integrated 2,000-watt/4-Ohm amp module. Maximum SPL of the system is 136dB (peak) in half space.
The onboard electronics are based on those of the well-established HK AUDIO DSM 2060 rack controller. PC software allows the operator to monitor the controller's key performance parameters, such as level, power amp temperature, and impedance.
An eight-band parametric EQ, a two-band shelving EQ, a high-low pass filter, as well as Gain, Delay, Phase, and Mute controls enable you to tweak settings and adapt the system to suit the venue.
ICON LTS will be shipping in September 2009. Demo systems are now available exclusively through HK AUDIO's Main Dealers.
THE MID-HIGHS
The active, processor-controlled 2-way mid/high unit is entirely horn-loaded. With its 24-bit/96-kHz DSP and both power amps, this unit is the heart of the system.
The 12"/8-Ohm neodymium loudspeaker is driven by a 1000-watt Class D power amp @ 4 Ohms, whereas the 1.4"/8-Ohm high frequency driver is powered by a 600-watt Class D amp @ 4 Ohms.
The DSP unit controls the entire system, including Gain, EQ and both limiters (RMS/Peak). With the IC 112 LA, the coaxial arrangement of the 60° x 40° CD horn and the 12" speaker (also horn-loaded) creates a precise coverage pattern of 60° x 40° over a frequency range from 400 Hz–17 kHz.
The audio reproduction of mids and highs is guaranteed to be high-resolution all the way up to 131 dB SPL (in half space). The Tilt Unit (available as an option) permits the upper cabinet to be angled in 5° increments up to a maximum of 15°; as a result, the upper cabinet can be aimed directly at the audience area even when the system is ground stacked. The upper cabinet is equipped with two multi-function handles and a removable dolly. Integral Aeroquip tracks enable the cabinet to be flown
THE SUBWOOFERS
The IC 118 BA makes use of a bandpass design to achieve high maximum sound pressure while producing deep low bass well below 40 Hz.
Even under maximum load the impulse response accuracy is striking. When used as the system subwoofer of the ICON LTS, the IC 118 BA is controlled entirely by the IC 112 LA mid/high unit.
The subwoofer cabinet houses integral electronics that include a latest-generation 2000-watt/4-Ohm Class D power amp which drives the 18"/4-Ohm neodymium subwoofer with ample headroom.
With 136 dB maximum SPL (139 dB maximum SPL calculated) over a frequency range from 33 Hz to the cutoff frequency, the subwoofer creates muscular, dynamic bass even under high SPL loads.
With a weight of 54 kg, 6 multi-function handles and the included dolly, the subwoofer is easy to handle and load in and out. Via an RJ45 connection with the Internal System Guard, performance data are sent to the upper unit and can then be displayed quickly and easily with the PodWare software on a Windows PC.
